Beverley Brown
My yoga journey started at the tender age of 16 practicing hatha yoga in my bedroom. I was in my late twenties when I came across the original edition of the Bikram Yoga book that was published in the 1970’s. After just a few days practice I noticed a change in my body and in those days I was more interested in the aesthetic benefits which were fast! I taught myself from the book everyday for 12 years before finally becoming a certified Bikram Teacher in 1997. The training was an eyeopener as I realised it was a completely different practice to what I had been doing at home for all those years! Oh boy!
I returned to introduce Bikram Yoga to Jersey in 1998 at Fort Regent – we had no mirrors – only coloured stickers and motivational sayings on the wall – it worked though and we all sweated our butts off! I also ran many workshops during that time teaching several healing modalities as well as running self-empowerment seminars including fire walking, glass walking and the odd iron bar bending to boot!
I have subsequently travelled worldwide conducting workshops and classes mainly on how our consciousness affects the body. I now feel I have a much deeper awareness of Bikram Yoga than I had before and I am very happy to be teaching here once again. I am also qualified in many types of massage – Swedish, Sports, Aromatherapy, Remedial, Reflexology, and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi.
I hope you enjoy the classes!
